Our Setting

The history of this church...

In 1985, a building with a sanctuary, four classrooms, a fellowship hall, kitchen, and parish offices was dedicated. The new facility was nearly 7,000 sq. ft. and served not only the congregation but also a number of community groups.

In 1987, Pastor Zieche resigned and the congregation was led on a part-time basis by Pastor Fred Marks. Having retired from a position in the national organization of the Lutheran Church, he stepped in to fill the pastoral void until the arrival of Pastor James Stein in January of 1989.

...as we grow!

The church staff grew with the addition of a youth leader, Christine Winkelman, in 1995 and a youth choirs director, Susan Daniels, in 1996. In 1999, Susan was named Director of Music. Pastor Carol Baumgartner served as assisting pastor from 1996 through the end of 1999.

In June of 2000, we welcomed a full-time associate pastor, Rev. Dorothy Lindstrom. After several years of two-session Sunday Schools, we rented two portable classroom units in the fall of 1996. These units provided four classrooms for a growing Sunday School and parish program. A third weekend worship service was also added that fall.

Responding to the growth of the congregation, the church council embarked on a long-range planning study. As a result, a building committee was elected in early 1997. Later in that year the congregation voted to sell our present building and relocate in order to build a larger facility on a new, expandable site.

Time to move...

In August of 1999 we moved out of our old building, and we worshiped and functioned in a variety of locations including North Shore Middle School, Hartland Tool, St. Anskar's Episcopal Church, Our Savior's Lutheran Church, and the homes of members of the parish.

On June 11, 2000, we dedicated our new 21,000 sq. ft. facility. It includes room for 300 worshipers, classrooms for our 200 children. We have a large music room, youth room, fellowship hall, nursery, library and suite of parish offices.

In July of 2003, we welcomed a full-time Associate Pastor, Pastor Carolyn J. Sellers to our congregation.

...and for the Children!

Grandma's House also operates a full service child care center in our building on weekdays from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Church of the Resurrection has approximately 1,000 members and is growing at a rate of about 10% per year. Children make up nearly 35% of our membership, and 80% of adults are under 45 years of age. With a new facility and an expanded pastoral staff we are preparing to meet the new challenges God is bringing to us!
