Sermon Title: Tri, Tri Again
Scripture: John 16:12-15
Will be posted next week
Theme: On Holy Trinity Sunday we celebrate the name of God: blessed holy Trinity. Praise Father, Son, and Holy Spirit!
Text: Luke 24:44-53 (and Acts 1:1-11)
Sermon Title: "Looking Up"
Will be posted next week
Theme: Christ ascends to heaven; the disciples stand agape. Two men in robes come along exclaiming - don't just stand there! Activate!
Sermon Title: "Heavenly Presence" (Sat. 5 p.m. and Sunday 8:30 a.m.)
Text: John 5:1-9
Will be posted the following week
Theme: Jesus' healing of the lame man on the Sabbath in the midst of a Jewish Festival underlines the heavenly presence that comes through Jesus' ministry. It does not conform to our standards, comfort zones, or wishes, but is always about meeting human need and brining new life.
Sermon Title:"No Boundaries to God's Love"
Text: John 13:31-35
Theme:Jesus new commandment, that we love one another as he has loved us, is born out by the early church in its sharing of God's love with all people, everywhere. In the season of Easter, we, too, can share the love that knows no boundaries.
Scripture: Revelation 7:9-17, John 10:22-30
Title: The Lamb Will Be Their Shepherd
Will be posted the week following
Theme: This is Good Shepherd Sunday, in which our Scripture readings center around the theme of sheep. We hear of Jesus as both the Shepherd, and the Lamb in our scripture readings today. The sermon will discuss what it means for our Shepherd to be the Lamb.
Title: "Do you love me?"
Text: John 21:1-19
Theme: In his third appearance to his disciples after his resurrection, Jesus provides breakfast for them and then asks if they love him. Loving Jesus is much more than knowing him or just knowing that he loves us. It implies a relationship that changes us.
Title: "The Power of Belief"
Text: John 20:19-31
Theme: Doubting Thomas is a good example of the power of belief. He doubted the resurrection because he wanted to believe the good news like the rest of the disciples. He wanted to believe that Jesus was the Savior of the World. That belief propelled him to great things, and despite our doubts, we can have that same power of belief.
Sermon Title: "Breathtaking"
Scripture: John 12:1-8
Theme: Mary anticipates Jesus' death as she anoints his feet with costly perfume. This extravagant action foretells Christ's extravagant gift of life as he goes to the cross for all people.
March 7th 2010
Sermon Title: "Patience"
Text: Luke 13:1-9
Theme: God's patient dealing with his people, including you and me, is a reminder of God's choice to deal with us and our world in mercy. Our repentance, this season, is not meant to appease a God angry with us and our sin, but rather an invitation for God to come and dwell in us.
